Overdose Said to Cause Death of 3 Teens
November 27, 2009
Reported by Lindsey Adams, Fremont Co. Bureau
The 2008 deaths of the three girls at Beaver Creek Housing on the Wind River Indian Reservation was never officially released. Since June of 2008, there was much speculation but no official cause of death. The FBI and US Attorney stated they could not give out the information.
This week, families of the victims broke their silence, saying the girls overdosed on methadone, a drug used to treat heroin addiction. Elyxis Gardner was a 13 year old victim, and her father believes that there were other motives behind the incident.
"I think they had other plans for the girls…once they took the drug…and what I was told is that my daughter went down first…and then freaked out right then and there…there was probably more boys there,” states Gardner.
Elyxis Gardner and Alexandrea WhitePlume were found inside of a housing unit at Beaver Creek, and Winter Rose Jewel Jenkins was found in a field right outside. Resident Martin Goggles believes that it was not his fault. "I just get tired of it because they call me like a bitch killer too…and all this stuff…but it's like man, if you guys are gonna talk, come to my house. But they aint doin nothing, everytime I get rowdy they just go call the cops," says Goggles.
Lander State Senator Cale Case stated that the public has a right to know about the deaths, and the fact that two juveniles were arrested- for the purpose of public safety.
Gardner deeply misses Elyxis, "I was always telling her…be good… 'don't worry dad'…and those were the last words she ever spoke to me."
