The Salvation Army wants to make sure that Santa visits every house this year and in order to do that they are holding their annual toy drive. For one member of the charity the toy drive hit particularly close to home.
Stella Parker works for the Casper division of the Salvation Army because of an experience she had as a child. She grew-up very poor and Christmas was something that didn't happen in her home. Then one year a neighbor secretly nominated her family for a donation and they found a surprise on their back porch.
"And so we had a real tree and a box with a chicken in it and three toys. It was a teddy bear,a monkey and a doll. Those were the only three toys I had through my whole childhood," says Major Stella Parker.
She feels that moment changed her life. The philosophy of the Salvation Army is that a simple donation can really make a difference.
You can donate toys at the Eastside Wal-Mart through the 16th and at the Westside Wal-Mart from the 17th to the 19th.
