Uranium Mine to Open Northwest of Rawlins

February 5, 2010
Reported by Associated Press

A new uranium mine is set to open about 35 miles northwest of Rawlins, and the city council is lending its support to the project.
Ur-Energy is slated to open the Lost Creek Mine just outside of Bairoil.
Rawlins City Manager Steve Golnar says Carbon County will not see much tax revenue from the project since it is located in Sweetwater County, but it will mean jobs for residents in Rawlins.
About 60 full-time jobs are required for operation.
A Ur-Energy official says he expects construction on the facility to begin near the end of June.
