Lynn Boomgaarden Steps Down
March 9, 2010
Reported by Rina Nakano
For the last seven years Lynn Boomgaarden has served as the Director of the Office of State Lands and Investments, but she is retiring her position next month.
Boomgaarden says, "This will be my last hearing in Casper. It's very bittersweet. I've enjoyed all aspects of my job. But having practiced in oil and gas and taught oil and gas law, is like a second home up here in Casper."
The agency she heads manages an umbrella of issues. Four million acres of Wyoming's surface lands, four million acres of Wyoming's minerals lands, the state forestry division, as well as one-on-one contact with ranchers and industry. Boomgaarden continues, "We administer over 7 grant loan programs that help local government and ranchers with Ag Loan programs."
But you haven’t seen the last of Boomgaarden. According to the Governor, it's because of her personable character
Boomgaarden says, "I knew there would be something else. I would probably finish out my career. That's the practice of law in Cheyenne. That's my home town, Born and raised in Cheyenne. I'm looking forward to staying there but I'm looking forward to building on experiences I was able to have in Office of State Lands and Investment"
Governor Freudenthal says, "Lynn has great interpersonal skills, she seems to be able to talk to everybody from the King to the poppers and treat them all the same and she is a truly gifted intellect that has the capacity to accept everybody, to work out their problems. She's been very successful both sitting in a ranch house and sitting in a conference room with industry."
Boomgaarden will formally step down from her position on April 9th. Both Boomgaarden and the Governor are enthusiastic about welcoming former Wyoming District Court judge, Ed Grant to fill the position.
